Féile an tSamhraidh
On a wet and dreary morning, on May 8th 2015, 62 boys and girls from Milford NS choir set off at 8am to participate in Féile an tSamhraidh, Midleton, County Cork. They were accompanied by choir teachers Linda O’Meara and Orla Murray, pianist Irina Dernova and SNA Maureen Meehan.
The choir, conducted by Ms. O’Meara, sang two songs at the competition which was held on the stage of Midleton GAA hall.
Child of Peace was the first piece the choir performed and it was melodic and sweet. The second piece was called Naughty, from the musical ‘Matilda’. This song was lively, animated and yes, a little bit naughty!!!!!
The whole choir waited anxiously with the children of the other seven participating choirs to hear the adjudication. The judges spoke about diction and phrasing (something Ms. Murray is always going on about!) The judges also spoke about dynamics and tone, and singing contrasting pieces which makes a performance exciting for the audience and judges.
After much nervous waiting- the announcement was made……. Milford choir was awarded Second Prize which delighted and thrilled the choir members and their teachers! A big cheer went up, and it was smiles and laughter the whole way home to Milford!
Well done to all involved, you’ve made the whole school very proud indeed.
