2017 Fitzpatrick Cup Competition
The 8th annual Fitzpatrick Cup Competition was a wonderful success. In total, 81 boys and girls from 4th – 6th classes took part. 20 League games, 7 knockout matches = 27 matches to complete this entire series.
The final game of the competition was played earlier today and it turned out to be a real cliff-hanger which was won in extra-time! Congratulations to Evan’s team who scored a ‘golden goal’ in extra time. They are worthy champions. Well done also to Hannah’s team, the beaten finalists, who were narrowly defeated in a pulsating contest. They played extraordinarily well right through the tournament and should be proud of their fantastic effort.
Congratulations to all 81 children for taking part and for participating in such a sporting way and also for being so well-behaved throughout the competition. These children are a credit to Milford National School and a credit to their parents and we are all very proud of them. Many thanks to all of the parents and grandparents for coming out and supporting the teams. It really added to the excitement and the sense of occasion.
Many thanks also to Mr. John Nelligan who organised the entire tournament and to the staff who volunteered to help out with the Fitzpatrick Cup; some as referees, but many others to perform supervision duties, escorting children to and from the astroturf and manning the First Aid Station each day.
Finally, a huge thank-you to the University of Limerick for the use of their fabulous astroturf facility and especially to Neasa O’Donnell and Catherine Dooley of the Sports Department for their ongoing support and help and dedication and goodwill towards the school.
