Senior Infant Energy Workshop
Milford senior infants attended an energy workshop to learn about the ways in which we can save energy at home and in school. Educational coordinator for the Irish Seed Savers Association – Aine Ní Fhlathartha visited Milford National School with her friend Guzzler. Together they thought us about the importance of saving water and electricity.
We also learned that when we are cold we should try putting on extra layers or exercising instead of automatically turning on the heat. To demonstrate this idea Ms. Moloney’s senior infants were divided into pairs on a cold morning. Pupils had to dress their partners with as many layers as possible while working against a timer. The first pair to put all layers on were the winning team. After both exercising and putting on extra layers all children admitted they were a lot warmer.
Finally, we were informed that humans need energy too. Aine explained that eating a good breakfast every morning is a great source of energy. We learned that many breakfast cereals are made with the help of the natural energy source – the sun. Some senior infants were chosen to practically explain the story of how Corn Flakes are made.
